Hi, I'm Rosie.

I learned pretty quickly that taking kids outdoors isn't a one-size-fits-all thing.
I'd already been taking my oldest hiking for a couple of years when my second came along. My oldest loved it from the beginning. He wanted to move fast, keep up, and see what was around the next corner.

My second was completely different.
She wanted to come, but she was more cautious. Unsure of what to expect. She needed time to warm up to the idea.

Same family. Same mum. Completely different child.

It was a good reminder that even when you think you've got something figured out, every child brings something different to the table.

And honestly, that's a big part of why The Outdoor Matriarch exists.

Because I've met plenty of mums who love the idea of getting outside with their kids but have no idea where to start. Or they worry about forgetting something. Choosing the wrong track. The weather changing.

Or, underneath all of those worries, there's the big one:
If something goes wrong, it's all on me.

I've felt that too.

Even with all my outdoor experience, I still had to remind myself: I know what I'm doing. I have the gear. I know the weather. I know my first aid. I've got what I need.

Sometimes the hardest part isn't the hike.
It's opening the front door.

But once you get out there, you learn.
You work out what works for your family. What you'd do differently next time. What your kids love. What they absolutely don't.

And slowly, the whole thing starts to feel a lot less daunting.
